How to Recover From a Surgery

How to recover from a surgery

Recovering from ovarian cancer treatment in India is not only a physical exercise. An emotional challenge is presented at the same time. This would be if you might have had the ovaries or the wombs removed. The moment you leave from the hospital you need to take things easy for at least a couple of weeks.

Ideally you should rest with your feet up. At the same time it is suggested that you do not stand for more than a few minutes. During the first 6 weeks of your surgery you can slowly working on your activity levels. The objective would be to bring it back to the normal self before the surgery. But the difficult part is that you are going to be tired very soon. It is suggested that you discuss with your doctor or nurse if you have any questions in relation to the surgery.

Before you leave the hospital it is suggested that you discuss with your doctor whether on how soon you can drive. In most cases you can drive after a month of the surgery. Do not get into the driving mode if you do not feel the urge to drive. In case of certain women they do feel tired and find it difficult to concentrate for a long period of time. There are going to be other form of cancer treatment like chemotherapy or radiation that would slow down the process of recovery. The key is how you feel and take things slowly after the surgery. At the same time do check the insurance policy before you plan to drive. There are some insurance policies that are not going to cover the driver for a few weeks after the surgery.

As far as sex is concerned it is going to be a lot different after the surgery. The vagina is going to be much shorter. But it can be stretched which hardly would make any form of difference to your partner. Just take into account the fact that if the womb happens to be removed, you are likely to have stitches on top of the vagina. This is where the cervix would have been taken out. You should not be having sex until 3 to 4 weeks till these wounds have gone on to heal. Just take a little bit longer to have sex as women need to feel comfortable. A wait for that longer period of time would do no harm.
Here the recovery happens to be more emotional than the physical side of things. The general feeling would be that the womb does appear to an important part of your body and when it is taken off things on the sexual front falter. There is a situation where you are no longer able to have periods and the chances of pregnancy would be a thing of the past. Even if the menopause was not there before surgery, loosing the womb would drain you considerably at an emotional level.
