There are so many rituals that take place at a Muslim wedding. some of the rituals are mentioned below with a short note on them:
Salatul Ishtikara:
Imam Zamin:
Rukhsat: This is a ritual in which the bride is sent to the groom’s house. All the family members give the bride a tearful goodbye.
Walimah: This is an after wedding reception party that the groom’s family give to the relatives and friends to announce that the marriage is done. These are the post-wedding rituals of a Muslim wedding.
Salatul Ishtikara:
- This is the first wedding ritual of a Muslim wedding is Salatul Ishtikara. This is a ritual in which matchmaking is done.
- In Muslims, it is believed that marriage is a direct contract between Allah and the couples. So, before wedding matchmaking is done and prayers are done in the mosque.
Imam Zamin:
- After Salatul Ishtikara, Imam Zamin is followed. In this ritual, the mother-in-law of the bride visits her house. She is there to shower her with so many gifts, money and clothes.
- The mother-in-law of the bride ties a silver coin wrapped in a yellow coloured cloth on the hand of the bride to be.
- This is the important ritual of Muslim’s wedding. this ritual is followed by Mangini.
- This is a ritual in which the couple exchange their rings and tell the people that in some time they are going to be married.
- This is the most common ritual of each religions wedding. The engagement rings are worn in the ring figure of left hands.
- This is a ritual in which a fine and pure paste of turmeric are applied to the bodies and face of the bride and groom.
- In a Muslim wedding, this ritual is referred to as Manjha but in Sikh culture, it is referred to as Vatna.
- This is a ritual in which the hands of the bride and groom are adorned with Mehndi. The in-laws of the bride and groom send mehndi to each other’s house.
- Along with mehndi, Sangeet takes place where people enjoy a lot by dancing and singing.
- This is a ritual in which the future-in-laws of the bride visits her house and then she is given so many gifts, jewellery, clothes etc.
- The wedding attire that is to be worn by the bride is also carried by her future in-laws. These are some of the pre-wedding rituals of a Muslim wedding.
Nikkah:
- The Muslim wedding is referred to as Nikkah, in Nikkah both the bride and groom sit in front of each other and then the Quran is read and prayers are done to thanks Allah for this wedding.
- After that the bride and groom are asked “Qabul Hai!” three times. If they say yes, then the wedding is complete.
